Pediatric dosing

  • contraindicated: true; reason: Limited pediatric emergency data; consult pediatric cardiology

Contraindications

  • HR <60
  • SBP <90
  • Decompensated HF
  • Second/third degree AV block

Clinical pearls

  • Renally cleared beta-blocker — requires dose adjustment in CKD unlike metoprolol
  • Hydrophilic — less CNS penetration than metoprolol
  • Once-daily dosing improves adherence
